The announcement comes in the wake of a deal offered by Holmes' legal team -- in which the killer would plead guilty to murdering 12 people in exchange for life in prison.
But prosecutors kicked that deal to the curb -- claiming the guy who murdered 12 people and injured 70 more during a movie theater ambush on July 20 deserves no mercy.
